We are MyTomette. And some of our decorative tiles are not engraved by us.

We have something to tell you. Pull up a chair.

A small clarification before we begin: decorative tile does not necessarily mean a fixed design. We also offer the personalised decorative tilein Salernes terracotta, using our tomette designs with your own words. This article introduces a different selection: 25 small tiles ready to give, with artwork that cannot be changed.

We are called MyTomette. It is on the workshop door, the parcels, the invoices and the apron. From the start, our work has been simple: take a Salernes terracotta tile, place it under the machine and engrave a name, a date, an address or a phrase someone could not quite say aloud.

Then one day we discovered some decorative tiles that were not ours. And we bought them.

How that happened

It began quite innocently. We were looking for motif ideas and came across a European workshop’s catalogue. There was a palm tree, drawn in one flowing line on natural stone, with a crescent moon in the corner. We looked at it for rather longer than necessary.

Then came the dunes. Then the birds. Then a tile saying “ Hôtel Maman ” — “Mum’s Hotel” — and that was that.

We hesitated. We are MyTomette, we engrave, and personalisation is our craft. Selling tiles we had not engraved felt like a slight departure. Then we thought: why not? They are beautiful, small and affordable. Above all, we did not want you to miss them.

So we brought in twenty-five designs. Here they are: our decorative tiles.

What exactly are they?

A decorative tile measuring 10 × 10 cm, in glazed ceramic or natural stone, with a design printed or engraved into the material. These are decorative objects, not flooring tiles to lay, fix and grout. They can be displayed on a wall with a suitable fixing, leaned securely on a shelf or placed on a windowsill — or tucked into a kitchen between the olive oil and the good intentions.

The format is deliberately small. It lets you arrange three or four without turning your wall into a museum. At €14.90 each, you can choose a small collection.

Four differences, honestly explained

It is worth being clear from the beginning.

  • We do not engrave them. They arrive finished. Our contribution is choosing the designs we fell for.
  • They are not Salernes tomettes. Our customisable terracotta blanks come from Salernes in the Var. These decorative tiles come from elsewhere.
  • They cannot be personalised. No name, date or “could we write this instead?” The design is fixed.
  • The price is for a ready-made design. Personalising engraved tomettes and tiles involves different work, with a price that depends on the format and options.

There it is. We could have left that unsaid, but we would rather you knew exactly what you were choosing.

Our favourites, since you ask

Each has its own appeal.

  • Palmier — the culprit that started it all. A palm tree on natural stone that never needs watering.
  • Hôtel Maman — “Mum’s Hotel”: no stars in the guide, fully booked all year. The joke needs little explanation.
  • Dunes — the motif and material tell the same story. Sand, without any in your shoes.
  • Bisou — French for “kiss”. Five letters on the tile, with no need for a longer message.
  • Good food, good mood — an obvious truth, but those can make the best kitchen decorations.
  • La dolce vita — this one made us smile because we engrave the same expression on our tomettes. Clearly we are not the only ones who believe in it.

A fixed design or a personalised tile?

The choice is mainly about the message: a motif you love as shown, or a composition engraved with your own words.

Choose a decorative tile with a fixed design for a small gift, a thank-you, a housewarming or a decorative touch. You choose the artwork as shown, with no wording to compose. Check the product page for the price and timing of the design you like.

Choose a personalised terracotta tile when the gift should tell a particular story: a child’s name and birth date, a couple’s names or a shared phrase. These designs use Salernes terracotta and are engraved to order in our workshop in the Var.

If that sounds right for your gift, start with our most-gifted terracotta designsor go straight to the occasion: new baby, housewarming, wedding, best friendor engraved messages.

One last thing

The selection is limited and may not be restocked. We chose these tiles one by one because we liked them, not to fill a spreadsheet. When a design sells out, we may fall for something different next time.

For now, you can explore all 25 decorative tiles. We are still engraving tomettes, of course. We have simply made a little more room in the shop.
