Your Pet, Engraved — Your Dog or Cat's Portrait, Engraved from Their Photo

Something about their pet rather than something for it: a portrait, a piece with the animal’s name, an album of photos. At MyTomette, a photo of their dog or cat becomes a drawing laser-engraved on a tomette or a square tile in Salernes terracotta, with the pet’s name. It’s a personalised gift for the owner, to stand up or hang, from €24.90.

Often something simple that keeps the animal present: a handwritten note, a framed photo, a portrait. A portrait engraved from the pet’s photo, with their name and perhaps their years, is a quiet, lasting way to remember them. If you’re unsure about the words, engrave just the name: it already says what matters, and it reads well on terracotta.

There’s no single right moment. Some people appreciate a gesture in the days that follow; others would rather you waited a few weeks, a birthday or Christmas. The safest approach is to ask someone close, quietly, or to choose a photo the person shared themselves. A portrait of a pet who has died can just as well be given several months later.

There’s no set ritual. Some people keep a small corner at home with a favourite photo, the collar or the name; others choose a spot in the garden where they loved to lie. The MyTomette portrait, engraved from their photo on Salernes terracotta with their name and dates, can stand indoors or outdoors, all year round, frost included.

Simple words that name the animal: “Thinking of you and Moka”, or a memory you have of them. Avoid comparisons, and anything like “it was only a dog”. A small gesture can go with those words: a card, a photo, or a portrait engraved from a picture you love of them, with their name.

Short phrases read best on a terracotta tile. The pet’s name and years are often enough, for example “Bramble, 2011 – 2026”. You can also engrave “In loving memory of Pepper”, “Always with us” or “Thank you for everything”. The text sits above or below the drawing, and you can also leave it out entirely so the portrait of your dog or cat has all the space.

A sharp photo where the eyes and nose are clearly visible, taken at the animal’s level, in daylight and without backlighting. Upload the original file rather than a screenshot or an image sent through a messaging app, which is often compressed. A plain background helps your pet stand out. Then check the drawing in the preview: that’s what will be engraved on the terracotta.

The portrait is a drawn interpretation: our tool turns the photo into lines, which we then laser-engrave into the terracotta. It works from what the photo shows clearly, their eyes, the shape of the head, the markings in the coat. Before you order, the preview shows the drawing that will be engraved; if you’re not happy with it, create a new illustration or try another photo.

Very dark or very pale coats can give less detail in the drawing. Choose a photo taken in full light if you can, where the eyes, the nose and the outline of the head stand out clearly from the background. The preview shows you the drawing before you order anything. If you’re not happy with it, create a new illustration from another photo of your pet.

Often, yes, as long as the animal is sharp and fills a good part of the image. A recent phone photo usually works. For an old printed photo, photograph it flat, in daylight and without reflections, then crop it around the animal. The tool produces a drawing within moments, so the preview tells you straight away whether your pet’s photo will work.

Yes. You choose a layout with the text above or below the portrait, or no text at all. Their name alone, their name and a year, or a short phrase with a date all fit on the tomette as well as on the square tile. To change the font or add a motif, such as a paw print or a heart, open your design in the expert configurator.

Each new illustration counts as one attempt, and you have 5 over a 48-hour period. The dots in the studio show how many you have left. Drawings you’ve already created stay in your gallery, so you can go back to them as often as you like. If a detail bothers you, try another photo of your pet or email us before ordering: contact@mytomette.fr.

It is used to create your drawing, with an AI service provided by OpenAI. It isn’t published in our catalogue. The drawing and the files needed for your order are sent to our workshop for engraving. Drawings that aren’t ordered are kept for a limited time, so that you can come back and finish your creation later. Read our privacy policy.

No. The portrait is laser-engraved into the terracotta: the tile has no compartment and no resin. It can, however, sit alongside another keepsake, such as an urn or a memory box, carrying your pet’s portrait and name. For a memorial without a photo, with a paw print and your dog’s name, take a look at our “Dans nos cœurs” tile.

The 12 × 10 cm hexagonal tomette costs €24.90 and the 13 × 13 cm square tile €29.90. A hanging hole adds €3, making €27.90 and €32.90. The price includes the Salernes terracotta tile, the drawing made from your photo and its laser engraving. Shipping costs depend on your destination and are shown on our delivery information page.
